Getting the right fit shouldn’t feel complicated. We’ll walk you through exactly what to measure, so your upgrade looks seamless from the start.

Measuring Vent Covers

Measure the Opening

Remove the existing vent cover. Measure the inside dimensions of the vent coveropening. Record the length and width to the nearest 1/8th ofan inch.

Consider the Depth

Measure the depth of theventopening to ensure proper clearance. Most dampers require about 2.75" of space.

Double-Check Measurements

Before ordering vent covers, take a second pass at your measurements to ensure a precise fit the first time.

When measuring for vent covers or registers, always measure the duct opening, not the existing cover. That opening determines the size you need, ensuring a proper fit and a clean, finished look.

Measuring Cabinet or Drawer Pulls and Knobs

Frederick Solid Brass Cabinet Knob - 1.5 Inch

Identify the Type

Start by choosing between a knob or a pull. Knobs use a single screw, while pulls are secured with two. The right choice depends on your layout and overall look.

Craftsman Solid Brass Drawer Pull - 6 Inch Centers

Measure the Screw Holes (for pulls)

Measure the distance between the centers of the two screw holes on your existing pull. This is your center-to-center measurement. If you're starting fresh, decide where you'd like your pulls to sit and mark the placement before drilling.

Consider the Length and Projection

Choose a pull length that fits your cabinet or drawer without extending beyond the edges. Then consider projection (how far the piece extends from the surface) to ensure it feels comfortable and proportionate in use.
